It seems insane that this should have to be said, but given a recent experience our founder had it seems it must be discussed. If you are a smoker, you shouldn't be smoking in the same car you do rideshare in. If you MUST smoke in your ride, defintiely take the time to clean your car after each cigarette. There may be absolutely nothing worse than hopping in the car with a driver who literally just put their smoke out, or worse yet is smoking when they pick you up.
I know, it seems difficult to believe that a driver would pick someone up while smoking however it happened to me last week. After calling for a Lyft, my driver showed up windows down (see previous post) and dragging hard on a Kool. Absolutely disgusting, and had I not been in a hurry I would have cancelled. Unfortunately, having been in a hurry I was left without much choice so I reluctantly hopped into the mobile ashtray that was to get me to my next meeting.
Even if you don't smoke with a passenger in the car you should definitely properly clean your car after a smoke. That tar sticks to EVERY surface in your vehicle. Winows? Yup. Upholstery? Yup. Plastics and door panels? Yup. All of them need to be cleaned properly to get the smell out or your passengers will definitely get a whiff of your bad habit, and it will likely be reflected in both your tip and rating. This is likely true even if they are smokers themselves.
We all spend quite a bit of time sitting idly on occasion, use that opportunity to burn a cigarette outside of your car. It's also important to understand things like Febreeze can mask the smell, however a non-smoker will sniff right through it.
