Welcome back to Tips for Tips, a blog curated by RideAlong Media featuring suggestions on how to earn more tips on a regular basis. This blog comes together as after years of being in the rideshare industry we are ASTOUNDED some of the advice we have seen being passed around on how to earn more tips. We thought we would get into the mix to start bringing you tips and suggestions as submitted by your fellow drivers, moderated by your friends at RideAlong Media to ensure none of that madness gets through.
There may be nothing greater for a driver than those special days where the weather is absolutely perfect for cruising with the tunes cranked and the windows down. Be it a crisp and refreshing day or that warm sunny day, it’s nearly impossible to cruise with the windows up. This week’s tips on windows comes to us from a rideshare passenger in Michigan who say’s he has had enough of drivers who don’t care to provide him good service, but just want to take his money (and then expect a tip!)
The passenger pointed out that he loves cruising with the windows down as much as the next guy, however it is often not as enjoyable as the guy (or couple) in the back seat. He mentioned most recently he and his wife summoned an Uber to go out to dinner, it was a fantastic fall night in Grand Rapids. The driver arrived, tunes blaring and windows down. The passenger and his wife hopped in and the driver whisked them off.
The ride was pleasant, the playlist was on point, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the warm fall evening until the driver merged onto the expressway. As the driver got up to highway speed it seemed he was blissfully unaware of the wind tunnel that was his back seat or the time his guests wife had put into perfecting her hair before leaving the house.
The passenger mentioned they pushed the window button, only to find the child locks activated and in turn they awkwardly asked the driver if he could put the windows up. Without saying a word, the driver rolled only the back windows up leaving his passengers in a whirlwind the rest of the trip.
The driver was comfortable the whole trip but it was at the cost of a poor rating and his tip. If you find yourself picking passengers up with the windows down, try one of this after they get in the car ;
“It’s such a nice night/day I have been driving with the windows down. If that is a bother, or makes you uncomfortable I’ll be happy to put them up and turn on the air to keep us comfortable, feel free to speak up!”
From there, confirm the address and carry on as per usual. Most of the time, the passengers will be happy to see you showed some consideration even if you stuck with what was most comfortable for you. They will also typically agree it is nice out and that windows down is a good thing. On the rare chance you end up making an adjustment for them, you will significantly increase the odds they will tip!
Let us know what you think, is a little courtesy worth increased earnings?
